Copenhagen to put an end to free-floating e-scooters
The Danish capital Copenhagen wants to ban rental electric scooters from 1 January 2021 in the city centre. They say the measure is primarily out of consideration for senior citizens because riders would scatter the light EVs in public spaces.

Voi adds another UK city as Liverpool goes live
Kickscooter rental company Voi has scored another contract in the previously closed UK market. The Swedish company has entered Liverpool on a trial basis with a fleet of 50 e-scooters, to begin with. The new project follows similar advances on the isles that so far, had mixed results.

Kick-scooter culture yet to kick in
A twelve-month trial with electric kick-scooters in Coventry, England, has been paused only five days after it started. Contrary to regulations, the vehicles were used on sidewalks and discarded throughout the city. The Council is now reviewing the best way to ensure the e-scooters are used appropriately.

Lime, Tier and Dott were granted permission to operate in Paris, while all other operators will have to pack up and go: The three e-scooter suppliers were able to prevail in a tender. They will each receive a two-year contract, during which they will be allowed to use 5,000 electric scooters in the city.

E-scooter sharing firm Voi first to break even
Sweden’s Voi Technology is on track to make an annual profit in 2021 after breaking even in June. It is the first big electric scooter sharing firm to do so, the company said this week. The announcement comes at a time in which the market has been hit hard.

Lime business in braking trouble
The Australian competition watchdog ACCC found that US electric scooter giant Lime failed to disclose an issue with the brakes on their vehicles which caused injuries to drivers. At least 50 such occasions were swept under the rug by the company, the ACCC found.

One hundred autonomous and remotely-controlled kick-scooters have recently been introduced in a pilot project in a suburb Peachtree Corners the US city of Atlanta. During the actual ride, the customers retain full control, but the electric scooters roll to the customer and to the charging station independently, or alternatively via remote control.

In the USA these include Atlanta, Phoenix, San Diego and San Antonio, in Latin America Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Lima, Puerto Vallarta, Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo and the Austrian city of Linz in Europe.
