Phone to EV charging network? Korea’s KEPCO has kicked off a pilot programme in Busan to test whether telephone poles can be converted to charging station with three types of charging. If it works, it could make plugging in in South Korea much easier.
UK goes electric: The Go Ultra Low campaign in Great Britain estimates that more than 1.3 million electric cars will be newly registered there every year. If their forecast is right, electric power could become the leading form of propulsion on the Iles by 2027.
Cheaper home chargers: Chargemaster is making Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV drivers in the UK a special offer, selling their domestic charging point package for 149 pounds. That’s up to 205 pounds less than what the units are typically sold for. Installation is included but must be completed by October 31st.
Tesla has fasted charger: Ecotricity had complained about Tesla saying that it had the world’s fastest charger currently available, a claim that was now confirmed by the Advertising Standards Authority in the UK. The ASA also accepted calculations for savings that Model S owner would have as being based on realistic petrol and electricity prices.
Hybridised: York-based Streamline taxis has added new Toyota Prius to its fleet, after recently purchasing 18 Auris hybrids. The company plans to grow its hybrid fleet. The city of York was awarded Go Ultra Low status in January.

Unified charging in the confederation: Swiss eMobility and utility EnergieSchweiz have launched the shared charging platform Ladenetz Schweiz (charging network Switzerland). The initiative aims to offer non-discriminatory and nationwide EV charging for the Alpine state by coordinating and encouraging efforts by multiple actors over the next two years.

Uber competition from BMW? The German carmaker might set up its own ride hailing service utilising its existing DriveNow fleet, Spiegel Online reports. If the plans go ahead, Germans could soon hail an i3 via app.

Charging Ecuador: State-owned Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) has signed a deal worth 30m dollars with the government of Ecuador. The plan is to erect EV charging stations at 91 locations along three motorways of the Latin American country.
Smart City Challenge: The finalists have been selected from 77 initial entrants. Austin, Columbus, Denver, Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Portland and San Francisco now compete for up to 50m dollars in funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation.
Leading by example: The council of British Plymouth has acquired six Nissan Leaf, thus moving ahead with its planned electrification. The leased pool cars are part of a two-year trial, during which the EVs could save about 26,000 pounds a year in fuel costs.
Nissan EVs enter the Palace of Monaco, as Prince Albert II took delivery of two e-NV200. The electric vans will be used to deliver goods as well as transport people around the premises. Monaco aims to be emission-free by 2050.

Real energy management: A real-time energy management system developed at the University of California increases efficiency of plug-in hybrid vehicles by up to 12 percent. The system itself becomes more efficient over time as it is learns to make optimal decisions based on past driving cycles.

South Korea renews: Korea Energy Power Corp. (Kepco) and SK Telecom Co. (SKT) signed a MOU to jointly invest 500 billion won (413.9m dollars) in renewable energy and linked fields, such as micro grids until 2020. This includes the development of self-driving electric vehicles and charging infrastructure as well as business models.
South Africa strives: The platinum producing country plans to set up a fuel cell component factory by 2018. The aim is to increase demand while decreasing cost, as the precious metal would be sourced locally. A feasibility study is underway and partly funded by the trade and industry ministry.
FCV supplier: Ballard Power System names TM4 as supplier of electric motors and inverters for new compressor units for Ballard’s FCvelocity-HD7 power module used in fuel cell vehicles.
