Michiel-Langezaal“We are the first player that builds a network fast-charging stations which are powered by 100percent renewable energy at high traffic locations along the highway. This makes the Netherlands one of the leaders in the field of electric vehicles. And this is just the beginning.”

Michiel Langezaal, CEO of Fastned, spoke at the inauguration of the company’s 50th fast-charging station in the Netherlands. Fastned aims to have 200 stations in its home country before setting its eyes on the rest of Europe.

Karl-Brauer“The regulators are what are driving electric car production. It’s not because consumers are demanding them.”

Karl Brauer, an industry analyst with Kelley Blue Book, echoes the words of Carlos Ghosn yesterday, as he too believes that private demand follows public regulation or is at least nurtured by it.

Michiel-Langezaal“It’s like a flow pipe. At the beginning your pumping in stuff and at some point it starts flowing out the other side. I think things are beginning to flow.”

Fastned CEO Michiel Langezaal believes that EV uptake will accelerate significantly once the tipping point is reached. While the Netherland’s goal of 200,000 EVs by 2020 might be hard to reach, EV numbers could go up rapidly to 8 million beyond 2020.

Nitin-Gadkari“Several state transport corporations running diesel buses are making huge losses. In association with the heavy industries ministry, we have prepared a proposal to introduce electric buses. Once we approve this, we will approach urban development minister Venkaiah Naidu.”

Apparently the Indian government is pondering the introduction of electric buses. However, plans of the minister of traffic Nitin Gadkari are still in the early stages.

Uwe Ellinghaus, Scot Harden, Michiel Langezaal.

Uwe-Ellinghaus“Tesla teaches us a message: If you offer cars with an electric drivetrain that have superb driving characteristics and a beautiful [interior], they find customers. What doesn’t work is to position a car for people who are tree-huggers and green-wash an entire brand.”

These are the “wise” words, or shall we say “Tesla-learnings” of Cadillac CMO Uwe Ellinghaus, whose controversial “Poolside” ad for the ELR certainly was not designed to attract treehuggers anyway.

Scot-Harden“Frankly they’re thinking about the next 100 years, and electric is going to be a big part of it.”

Zero Motorcycles President Scot Harden when asked about the electric Harley. The LiveWire announcement created a buzz in the (electric) motorcycle world as Zero doubled its web traffic that day.

Michiel-Langezaal“From September onwards we will built one new station a week”.

Fastned founder Michiel Langezaal plans to open a total of 201 fast-charging station throughout the Netherlands. The start-up company was the first operator to receive concessions from the Dutch government for EV charging. These give Fastned the exclusive right as well as the obligation to erect the stations in the next 1.5 years. At the same time, Fastned is already eyeing the Swiss market.
