Elon Musk, Nick Rogers

Elon-Musk-Twitter“My guess is probably in 10 years more than half of new vehicle production is electric in the United States.”

Elon Musk is never one to shy away from bold visions. He based this one on exponential growth and pointed to China, which he expects to create new world realities even faster through regulation.

Nick-Rogers“We’re making sure that there’s an authenticity to the vehicle, that it’s absolutely worth any price that we put to it.”

That is Nick Rogers, Jaguar’s executive director of product engineering, talking about the I-Pace. Like Porsche, Jaguar will not compromise when it comes to EVs eventually.

Nick-Rogers“We are working with a number of partners on the future of electrification including Warwick University, battery suppliers and of course our long-term partners Williams. We will have our engineers embedded with Williams from the start and our innovations will directly affect future Jaguar Land Rover vehicles.”

Nick Rogers, Jaguar Land Rover’s Group Engineering Director, on the firms entry into the Formula E series. Williams is already a partner off the tracks and will join JLR’s racing endeavour.

Josh-Tavel“We’re still figuring out how fast we want to go. We’ve over validated a lot of our components just in case, but were still figuring out if we want to limit it to say, 50kW’s or 60kW’s or possibly higher. That decision hasn’t been made yet but I can promise it won’t be lower than 50kW.”

Chevrolet Bolt EV Chief Engineer Josh Tavel muses on the Bolt’s DC fast-charging capabilities. His approach seems a bit conservative considering Tesla currently charges at 100 kW, while BMW and Audi are working on a 150 kW system.

Nick-Rogers“Electric vehicles will absolutely play a role in Jaguar Land Rover’s future product portfolio and Formula E will give us a unique opportunity to further our development of electrification technologies.”

Nick Rogers, Group Engineering Director for Jaguar Land Rover, comments on the confirmation of JLR’s entry in the electric racing series.

Akio-Toyoda“If more hands are needed, even I will join – but they rejected me, they said I’d just be in the way.”

Toyota President Akio Toyoda frolics as the first batch of new Prius left the production line. The Prius is made to order and the company says it received 60,000 requests from Japan already.

Raj-Nair“We still see feedback that people are concerned about range on a plug-in hybrid, which, really, to be honest, doesn’t make sense. If we do that type of education, we believe that plug-in hybrids make a lot of sense for a lot of consumers.”

Ford’s product development chief Raj Nair wishes for more EV-savvy customers. In the festive season one is tempted to remind him of “the spirits that thy cited”…
