UK: Peugeot opens reservations for electric car e-208

Peugeot opens the pre-order books for the all-electric version of the upcoming 208 series. The Group had presented details of the fully electric version at the Geneva Motor Show in March. Now the e-208 is open for reservation in the United Kingdom with a £500 deposit.

Slovakian production of Peugeot e-208 picks up steam

Peugeot has apparently already started production of the e-208. According to media reports, the first vehicle of the new generation Peugeot 208 with an all-electric drive rolled off the assembly line on 27 March at the PSA plant in Trnava, Slovakia.

Paris: PSA will also launch electric car sharing service

After Renault, PSA will now also set up an electric vehicle sharing fleet to replace to EV sharing programme Autolib in Paris. Under the Free2Move brand, the company will launch a fleet of 550 Peugeot iOn and Citroën C-Zero electric vehicles on the 3rd of December for short term rentals.

PSA has announced plans to electrify their entire utility vehicle palette by 2025. Starting in 2020, the Peugeot Expert and the Citroën Jumpy will be electrified, while the Citroën Berlingo Electric and Peugeot Partner Electric will receive larger batteries.

Royal Mail launching EV delivery fleet in Essex

A new fleet of electric postal vans has been introduced in South Essex by Royal Mail. The Eldon Way site is one of 18 UK-wide locations to have been fitted with charging stations with 100 electric vans in use around the country in total.

Tesla with record-breaking quarter: The American EV maker has accumulated 25,000 sales in Q1 2017, that’s 69% above the first quarter of 2016 and the company’s best result ever. The Model S accounts for 13,450 sales, the Model X for 11,550. Furthermore, 4,650 EV’s are currently on the way to their new owners and to be reflected in the second quarter’s statistics. Taking those into account, Tesla claims to have set a new record in production: 25,418 EV’s rolled off the lines this quarter.

Copy cat in reverse: Chinese Chery has filed a trademark complaint against Daimler’s use of the EQ label for green cars. Chery said it utilises the letter combination eQ since two years for certain new energy vehicles and obviously wishes to continue to do so. The case is now with China’s Trademark Office of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce, which Chery hopes will bar Mercedes from using the name on the Chinese market.

Subaru’s first EV by 2021: Fuji’ Heavy Industries’ auto division Subaru is readying its first electric car within the next four years, president Yasuyuki Yoshinaga revealed. Its premier plug-in hybrid model however, will not take that long and Subaru plans to launch it by 2018 already – first in the States. This focus may surprise as most carmakers look for growth in China but Yoshinaga believes the Chinese market to be over satiated. Following this westward orientation, Subaru is likely to move away from diesel too, but will keep its boxer engine, only it will be coupled with electric drives in the future.

eGO-LifeEconomy EV: e.Go Life is a city car by e.GO Mobile AG due to debut at CEBIT show in Berlin. Serial production is scheduled for spring 2018 and prices start at 15,900 euros, which may make it just the solution needed for e-mobility to become affordable for most. Driving the e.Go is an 48-Volt system by Bosch and the spec puts the range at 100 km. The company based at RWTH Aachen campus will open the order books by May this year.

Another compact EV comes from China, where BAIC is to reveal the ArcFox-1 at the Shanghai Auto Show. Spy shots show an electric car that is reminiscent of both the Mini and Soul EV but will sit just two. A 200 km range is enough for city dwellers and kick off is set in China this autumn.

Peugeot mini SUV electric and lux? Once the French will update their mini SUV 2008 next year, an electric version as well as a premium model under the DS label are likely. Autobild reports both EV may hit the market as early as 2019 and while the Peugeot 2008 would come with 350 km range, the DS 3 Crossback may add another 100 km on top. Audi confirmed the Q4 for kick-off in 2019 and the SUV will also feature a plug-in hybrid drive. The Q4 will sit on the same MQB platform as the new Q3 and prices will start at about 28,000 GBP in the UK. News from Bavaria: BMW confirmed that it will build an electric Mini Cooper, as well as an electric version of the X3. The former will hit the road 2019, with the X3 to follow one year later. Bloomberg broke the news, citing no other than BMW CEO Harald Krüger himself. He calls it the “phase two” of electrification, while his competitors were only in “phase one.”
