UK: UPS rolls-out Rex EVs powered by Tevva Motors
The logistics giant UPS plans to bring 15 electric vans with range extenders onto British roads in the next few weeks and deploy them permanently. In the EVs developed in cooperation with Tevva Motors, a small diesel engine is used to charge the batteries.
Spain: First all-electric truck by Irizar
The Spanish manufacturer Irizar, known for its electric buses, has now introduced an electric truck called the ie Truck. The 18-tonne truck will be available both as a purely electric vehicle and with an additional range extender running on natural gas.
Austria presents new EV subsidy packet
Austria has updated their subsidy packet for electrified vehicles for the years 2019 and 2020. Notable is that BEVs now receive a unified 3,000 euro subsidy each, but only up to a purchase price of 50,000 euro for private use or 60,000 euros for commercial use.
Paris grants permission for launch of LEVC’s black cab
Geely-owned London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) will bring its electric taxi with range extender to Paris. A permit for the black cab has now been granted by the Paris authorities. The French capital is expected to receive the model called TX in the first half of 2019.

Mazda is banking on hybrids for electrification strategy
Mazda has announced to electrify all of their models in the coming decade, partly at least, as the Japanese manufacturer is banking on hybrid motor systems for this endeavour. By 2030, 95% of their vehicles will feature a double motor system, with only 5% being fully electric.
Wabco to premier recuperating electric trailer
Wabco will present the prototype of its first electric trailer at the IAA Commercial Vehicles this week. The eTrailer has an intelligent electric motor control and can recuperate energy in order to support a towing vehicle or to operate equipment.
ElringKlinger to enter IAA with new products
ElringKlinger is ready to show new product innovations at the IAA Commercial Vehicles, particularly in the battery and fuel cell technology areas. An example is their PEM fuel cell stack with 260 cells. The supplier also packed new electric drive units to go on display.
Nissan to spread the Note e-Power across SEA
Nissan want to extend the reach of their e-Power technology as used in the Note beyond Japan. First markets to benefit from the unusual hybrid are countries in south east Asia such as Thailand and others with weak charging infrastructure.
Electric vehicle for mining by Danfoss and Paus
The Finnish arm of Danish Danfoss has joined Paus Maschinenfabrik from Germany in their drive to electrify mine vehicles. The first fruit of their cooperation is the MinCa 5.1 that has gone serial and is available as either hybrid or all-electric vehicle.
Engie fits 50 Kangoo Z.E. with fuel cells
The energy provider Engie has fitted a fleet of 50 Kangoo Z.E. with fuel cell range extenders from Symbio, in Rungis, near Paris, for their employees. A hydrogen fuel station was also installed at the location.
Number of PEVs has passed 3 million globally
By the start of 2018 the number of vehicles with electric motors, range extenders or plug-in hybrid systems have reached a global 3.2 million units, according to a ZSW survey. China is leading with around 1.2m NEVs driving around the country.
Nissan to offer its e-Power tech in the USA
The Japanese carmaker wants to bring its range extender tech to the States, where it shall help to power rather big hybrid models, according to chief planner Philippe Klein. In Japan, the tech is known to feed Nissan’s small car Note.

Workhorse W-15 now available to everyone

Study tip: A new report by IDTechEx expects the market for range extenders to grow over the next ten years to become worth 125 billion dollars in 2025. According to the “Range Extenders for Electric Vehicles 2015-2025” study, by 2025 more than 8 million vehicles will have an REx.
