Fraunhofer to build solid-state batteries based on Sulfur and Silicon
Fraunhofer IWS has launched a new research project called ‘MaSSiF – Material Innovations for Solid-State Sulfur-Silicon Batteries’ to develop sulfur-based prototype cells, which the team expects to become “very lightweight and cost-effective” while another component will secure the battery’s longevity.

Sila Nanotechnologies presents new anode material
The Californian battery material specialist Sila Nanotechnologies has presented Titan Silicon, its anode material made of nanocomposite silicon (NCS). It is said to help electric vehicles achieve 20 per cent more range today – with the potential to double the range advantage in the future.

Nexeon raises over $200m for silicon-anode production
British battery developer Nexeon secured over 200 million dollars to fund battery materials manufacturing. The company speaks of soon making “tens of thousands of metric tonnes” of its silicon-based anode materials and mentions supplying Tier 1 OEMs.

Zenlabs investor Lilium expects battery tech to power jets
Zenlabs Energy has received $3.5 million from the US Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC) to co-fund a two-year project focusing on electrolyte and active materials in silicon-dominant anode cells. Jet maker Lilium has licensed the technology to power its zero-emission aircraft expected in 2025.

LG ES & UC San Diego announce silicon-based solid-state battery
Researchers from LG Energy Solution and the University of California San Diego have developed a new type of battery that combines two technological approaches. The battery has both a solid-state electrolyte and an all-silicon anode, making it an all-silicon solid-state battery.

GS Yuasa presents improved silicon electrode
