Nexeon raises over $200m for silicon-anode production

British battery developer Nexeon secured over 200 million dollars to fund battery materials manufacturing. The company speaks of soon making “tens of thousands of metric tonnes” of its silicon-based anode materials and mentions supplying Tier 1 OEMs.

Zenlabs investor Lilium expects battery tech to power jets

Zenlabs Energy has received $3.5 million from the US Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC) to co-fund a two-year project focusing on electrolyte and active materials in silicon-dominant anode cells. Jet maker Lilium has licensed the technology to power its zero-emission aircraft expected in 2025.

InoBat scores lithium-silicon battery deal with Group14

Slovakia’s battery specialist InoBat announces cooperation with Group14 Technologies, a supplier of lithium-silicon battery materials based in the US. The partners say they will produce customisable, high-energy-density batteries for automotive applications using Group14’s patented anode.

GS Yuasa presents improved silicon electrode

The Japanese battery manufacturer GS Yuasa has developed a silicon-metal-based electrode which leads to a higher energy density and longer life cycles. It is said that the energy density can be tripled compared to conventional lithium-ion batteries.

Daimler partners with Sila Nano on batteries

Daimler has acquired a minority stake in the Californian battery materials specialist Sila Nanotechnologies, with which BMW already cooperates. The company completely replaces conventional graphite electrodes with silicon-dominated composites.
