EU Commission considers 100 billion euro transport package
The EU Commission has apparently drawn up initial proposals for an economic and climate protection package in the transport sector worth up to 100 billion euros. Among other things, the plans outline a purchase premium for ‘cleaner cars’. There is apparently still some dispute about which cars should be included.

Poland put premium purchase on hold but EV sales are rising

China extends EV sales tax exemption til 2022
The Chinese government has now officially confirmed that it will exempt New Energy Vehicles (BEV, FCEV and PHEV) from the 10 per cent purchase tax in 2021 and 2022. Rumours to this effect had already been in circulation since the beginning of this month.

Tesla launches Shanghai Model 3 deliveries
Tesla has started deliveries of the first Model 3s produced in the Shanghai plant to customers. The first 15 vehicles were handed over to Tesla employees during a special event. According to a Reuters report, regular customers will also receive their vehicles from 7 January onwards.

US EV subsidies in question
In the U.S., thousands of car buyers may have erroneously received more than $70 million in tax credits for plug-in hybrids and electric cars – even though their vehicle was not actually eligible. China releases Tesla from sales tax
The Chinese government has added Tesla’s electric cars to the list of vehicles exempt from sales tax. Only cars produced in China are exempt from the ten per cent sales tax.

UK to strike company car tax for EVs in 2020

Germany to extend tax incentives for plug-in cars
German Federal Finance Minister Olaf Scholz has announced a significant extension of tax incentives for electric cars and plug-in hybrids as company cars in Germany. The 0.5% rule came into force at the beginning of this year is expected to have an effect beyond 2021, the initial end date.

India gears import taxes for domestic EV assembly
The Indian government has lowered import duty on parts of electric vehicles from 15-30 per cent to 10-15 per cent, effective January 30. At the same time, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) is now charging customs duty for battery packs for EVs, which were previously exempt.
