A classic revamped for a new element

Italian designer Pierpaolo Lazzarini has fused the classic Vespa with a modern jet ski. His vision includes an electric version capable to self-balance on the water and to sail with 32 knots per hour (60 kph).

Piaggio begins production of electrified Vespa

The cult classic is returning with an electric motor. Piaggio has announced the production kickoff for their electric Vespa for September. Next to a fully electric version, the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer is planning on offering a range extended version with an additional generator in future.

Tesla acquires Grohmann Engineering: Tesla announced that it has entered into an agreement to buy German engineering firm Grohmann in order to ramp up automated manufacturing of its electric cars. Grohmann Engineering will be renamed Tesla Grohmann Automation after the deal, which still needs to be approved by cartel authorities. The acquisition, whose financial terms were not disclosed, is expected to add over 1,000 engineering and skilled technician jobs in Germany over the next two years.

Toyota confirms BEV plans: Toyota said it will introduce BEVs to the market, but did not confirm any details of the recent Nikkei report. The carmaker states it will continue to improve on the development of HEVs and PHEVs, as well as FCVs and BEVs. Vespa goes electric: Piaggio is presenting an electric version of its legendary Vespa scooter at the Italian bike show EICMA. This concept will be translated into the final version of the Vespa Elettrica, for which production and sales are planned for the second half of 2017.
