Swift to sweep over India? Apparently, the Indian government has big plans for Maruti Suzuki’s latest plug-in hybrid, the ‘Swift Range Extender,’ which was designed in India but uses parts from Japan. How many Swift plug-ins will be ordered is not disclosed yet, due to the upcoming elections, but details are set to be revealed at the start of the new financial year 2014/15.

Connecting Austria: Renault finally offers the so-called emergency cable to Austrian drivers of its electric Zoe. With the cable it is now possible to recharge the car at standard household outlets. The ‘Green Up’ package costs an extra 600 euros and allows for slow charging with ten or 14 A. For maximum safety, Renaults recommends to have an extra socket (with fuse and RCD) installed, commissioned by Alpine Energie.

DC wars: Referring to recent statements, it becomes obvious that not everybody is happy about the fact that Tesla is pushing forward by using its own proprietary DC charging system. Both Managers from Daimler and car supplier Bosch would have liked Tesla to adopt existing standards.
