EV professorship: French École Centrale de Nantes and Renault are launching the first research chair focusing on propulsion performance of electric vehicles. The project is said to run for five years and has a budget of 4.6m euros. Malek Ghanes will take over the lead.

High performance batteries for buses: XALT Energy has presented a new Lithium Titanium Oxide (LTO) cell, said to improve cell life performance compared to other Li-ion cells. The LTO cells are currently used in battery-electric buses that fast-charge more than once a day.

Energy storage: Toyota has installed stationary hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity at its energy management facility in Honsha, Japan. The plant also features solar power and stationary batteries made from recycled batteries for the Toyota Prius. Back in 2015, the carmaker announced an effort to make its recently constructed facilities CO2 emission free.
