More electrolytes: Mitsui Chemicals finished construction of an electrolyte production facility in Japan. Production capacity is said to be around 5,000 tons per year and should meet the growing demand for electrolytes for Li-ion batteries – especially for electric and hybrid vehicles.
Progress for sodium-oxygen batteries: Researchers are one step closer to producing the high capacity battery. They previously used dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) as electrochemical applications, which reacted with the sodium to create problematic by-products. Scientists now found that adding an organic salt sodium trifluoromethanesulfonimide (NaTFSI) will stabilise the DMSO in the presence of sodium.
