BYD faces slumping profits

The Chinese electric car and battery manufacturer BYD has published its preliminary results for the 2019 fiscal year. At just under 121.8 billion yuan, sales were on a par with the previous year, but profits slumped by 42 per cent to around 1.6 billion yuan.

Volvo launches battery assembly in Ghent

Volvo Cars has inaugurated a battery assembly line at its Belgian production site in Ghent. Batteries for the XC40 Recharge P8 will start rolling off assembly lines at the Ghent plant from March, while the production of the first electric Volvo is also scheduled to start in Ghent in the autumn.

The US Trade Commission has given a preliminary ruling on the legal dispute between the two South Korean battery manufacturers LG Chem and SK Innovation in the USA. The Trade Commission has ruled in favour of LG Chem, and a final decision is expected by 5 October 5th.

Alpiq & Mercedes team up on energy storage

The Swiss energy group Alpiq and Mercedes-Benz Energy have concluded a supply agreement for the stationary use of batteries from electric vehicles. The storage unit has a capacity of 1.5 MW and a gross capacity of 1.4 MWh, which is also possible to scale up.
