VW transports batteries to Zwickau by train

According to Volkswagen, “green battery logistics” have been put into operation for the MEB plant in Zwickau. Transporting the batteries by rail is expected to save around 11,000 tons of CO2 per year compared to truck transport.

The Finnish supplier Valmet Automotive has started up another Battery Test Center (BTC) in Weihenbronn, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. The facility should expand the testing capacities at the central battery testing facility in Bad Friedrichshall 30 kilometres away.

Jobs at Tesla: Giga Berlin hires for cell & car production

Tesla has begun hiring staff for battery cell production at Giga Berlin in Grünheide. Reports say the company would also look to finding personnel in vehicle assembly starting in January. Up to 7,000 employees would then help build a slightly modified Model Y for the markets in Europe.

SVOLT to build German battery factory in Saarland

The Chinese battery cell manufacturer SVOLT will build its European battery cell factory in the German state of Saarland. The cell factory itself is to be built in Überherrn, and an assembly of modules and packs in Heusweiler. Cell production is scheduled to start at the end of 2023.
