BMW’s next-gen drivetrains without rare earths (Video)

A new video released by BMW shows schematically how the fifth generation of the company’s electric drivetrains will look like. The new tech works without rare earth elements and shall be utilized by 2021.

Together with more efficient batteries, the new generation of motors including gear and power electronics shall enable an EV range of 700 km respectively of 100 km in PHEVs. As reported, BMW intends to electrify all of its car series. The following video gives an impression of how the carmaker is going to approach this objective: with flexible architectures.
