Thomas Ulbrich to head VW’s new electric mobility unit

Volkswagen is creating a separate Board of Management division for electric mobility due to start operation at February, 1st. Head of the division will be Thomas Ulbrich, who was before responsible for Production and Logistics of the Volkswagen brand.

Thomas Ulbrich (51) is an experienced member of VW’s Board of Management. He joined the group in 1989 and got head of Logistics of FAW Volkswagen in China by 1996. Following positions in Wolfsburg and Emden, he was appointed as Technical Director and Speaker of the Management Board of Auto 5000 in Wolfsburg. In 2008, Ulbrich got head of Production of the Volkswagen Nutzfahrzeuge brand and in 2010, Technical Executive Vice President of Shanghai-Volkswagen in China. Since April 2014, he was responsible for Production and Logistics of the Volkswagen brand.

The newly created division will be in charge of VW’s electric mobility series, first and foremost of the production of vehicles on the new MEB platform. Moreover, Ulbrich and his team will be responsible for the development of the group’s EV competence centre in Zwickau.

Successor of Ulbrich in the Production and Logistics unit of the Volkswagen brand will be Dr. Andreas Tostmann, formerly Production head of the Seat brand.
