ABB has presented a new charging system capable of capacities up to 350 kW at the Hannover Messe trade show. The Terra HP charging system will allow for 8 minute charging times to serve for up to 200 km range.

The new ABB system is capable of charging EVs with 400 volt as well as 800 volt batteries to full capacity. In the double charging port variety, two EVs can charge with up to 150 kW each, or one with up to 350 kW, according to the press statement. Furthermore, after the first installation, further charging points can be easily added as desired, which will facilitate future expansion at public and private charging points. It is reportedly even possible to further push the system performance by cooling the cables.

According to Frank Muehlon, head of ABB’s Global Business for Electric Vehicle Charging; “We are committed to supporting the expansion of electric vehicle charging systems across the globe to drive cleaner environments.” The company were also focusing on providing “innovative state-of-the-art and energy efficient solutions ” to fit customers specific needs.

At the start of March, Fastned had already installed an ABB fast-charging system with a 350 kW capacity at the De Watering gas station near the Dutch A8 highway. With the official market release, it is expected that the chargers will pop up all over now.

ABB has been working in the charging infrastructure business since 2010, and has installed more than 6,500 cloud-based DC chargers around the world so far. After the recent reveal of the HPC Overnight Charger, this marks the second major release this year, after the e-bus charging module.
