Toyota’s premium branch has updated the Lexus ES for the sixth time, only now the 2019 model is more sleek and slightly more powerful. The hybrid version ES 300h delivers 160 kW with an all new system and is powered by a nickel metal battery.

The latest generation of the Lexus ES has been unveiled at the Beijing Motor Show. However, the model is also due in Europe, where it will replace the current Lexus GS.

The hybrid version ES 300h uses a novel, fourth-generation Hybrid Drive System, which couples an Atkinson cycle 2.5-liter, four-cylinder gas engine with a lighter, more compact electric motor and self-charging hybrid system. The nickel-hydrogen battery is smaller than before as well which allows it to be mounted underneath the back seat.

Built on the all-new Global Architecture―K (GA-K) platform, the new ES is longer, lower and wider than before. The seventh-generation’s new roofline emphasises such lower stance and improved aerodynamics.

The platform and hybrid system is the same Toyota just introduced for the Avalon.

The 2019 Lexus ES will go on sale later this year.
