ford-symbolic-picture

Ford has hired Steve Hood as the head of the electrified vehicle unit in Europe. In future, he will be responsible for the development of strategies, business models and plans for electrified vehicles and service on the continent.

Previously, Hood was the head of marketing, sales and service at the joint venture between Ford and the Chinese Changan, as well as CEO of the Ford business unit TrustFord in the UK.

The newly created position supports Ford’s plans to redefine themselves in Europe, as well as prepare for a larger scale introduction of electrified vehicles. Steve Hood will be establishing a new team to support his work in this endeavour.

Worldwide, Ford is investing eleven billion dollars in the electrification of vehicles, including both battery electric models as well as plug-in hybrids. In Europe, production of the Modeo Hybrid Wagon is set to begin soon, which will expand the lineup next to the current Modeo Hybrid. In 2019, Ford of Europe will also begin introducing a 48 volt mild hybrid, as well as the serial version of the Transit Custom as a plug-in hybrid. In 2020, Ford is also planning to introduce a fully electric SUV with an expected range of about 480 km, as well as two additional fully electric vehicles.

I’m a huge fan/supporter of Tesla but genuinely hope Ford can pull this off, in Europe at least, they are a major part of the market for vehicles so if they can electrify the range in a reasonable time scale (and I don’t mean hybrids), would great for Ford, customers, competition and the environment.
