The German energy group E.ON has acquired an unknown stake in the Finnish charging service provider Virta. With the fresh capital, Virta intends to accelerate its international growth and strengthen its position on the European market.

Earlier this year, Virta and E.ON sealed a partnership to make thousands of E.ON charging stations in ten European countries accessible to users of electric vehicles. According to the duo, the cooperation will create one of the largest and densest charging networks in Europe.

In October, E.ON announced its intention to introduce Virta’s IT system as a software solution for its network of more than 4,000 charging points. The aim is to improve the energy flow “behind the charging stations”, avoid energy peaks and reduce costs for end consumers. Currently, over 200 EV charging networks from 19 countries are operating their charging services through the Virta platform with over 30 different brands.
