Innolith battery said to achieve 4 x energy density

Swiss energy technology company Innolith says they have developed the world’s first lithium-based rechargeable battery with an energy density of 1000 Wh/kg, which would give electric cars a range of more than 1000 km on a single charge. The battery apparently uses less expensive materials and is non-flammable.

It would appear that Innolith has managed three significant breakthroughs here: the battery’s non-flammable nature, its high-density and the reduction of reliance on expensive materials.

Making the battery safer is the use of a non-flammable inorganic electrolyte. Also, the battery’s high energy density has been able to make a big jump because of chemistry, that is said to have overcome the poor performance of traditional intercalation-based materials.

Innolith Chairman, Alan Greenshields explained that the breakthrough came through years of research into all aspects of inorganic electrolytes. He explained that “The absence of organic materials, crucial for the stability of Innolith’s high power product, removes the key source of safety risk and chemical instability of high energy batteries.”

Innolith has already proven the breakthrough character of non-flammable, inorganic rechargeable batteries with its first product, a Grid-Scale Power Battery. This was launched in late 2018 with inorganic grid-scale lithium-ion battery technology capable of many thousands of more cycles at a third of the cost of standard lithium batteries. The technology is currently in use in the U.S. providing fast frequency regulation services.

Innolith intends to launch its new product called the ‘Energy Battery’, on the market by means pilot production at the company’s facilities in Germany. This will be followed by licensing partnerships with battery and automobile manufacturers. The development and marketing of the new cell are expected to take between three and five years, according to Innolith.

However, there have been other trying to deliver the battery breakthrough, but none has produced so far. Moreover, Innolith is keeping much of the chemical detail a secret – understandable in a competitive market perhaps but making it impossible to falsify their claims at the same time. So. delivery will be everything as always.

Very difficult to believe this 1000Wh/kg number. If the technology was so good why did the Alevo, mentioned as US Grid battery in this article, went bankrupt?Company spent >$400M in USA plant and died within 3 years. I heard because the electrolyte is not flammable, however is EXTREMELY corrosive like toxic acid. Who would like to carry a full box of such acid in thier car even if it has such good energy.Good luck to the team, but 99.99% of these new battery technologies never see commercial life. LG or CATL would have bought them if it was so good.

Yes you would have to manage the containers, as you do with something that catches fire like gas or 2170's. The question is can you safely contain it and is the risk vs benefits worth it. Heck; driving in itself is a risk.

Why not produce release tiers of the product? Versions that improve both size and performance with editions. Waiting til it is 100% will certainly have a negative impact on the return bottom line.

Excellent achievement, this is a remarkable development that would lead EVs promotion to the next level. Excited to look these batteries coming to market the soonest... much zeal to see entry of EVs in Pakistan.

This will be great for paramotoring ! Small gas engines will not be needed any more.

This technology was 90Wh/kg until it went bankrupt (if this is the same company called Alevo), how did within few moths of filing Chapter 11 the energy density has gone more than 10X up, where as industry is struggling to get 1%/year improvement? Either claims are goofy or they hid something under the carpet from investors at Alevo.

Alan Greenshields and his buddies have bled ALEVO dry of over $200 million USD in record time without producing a cent in return for investors. Beware of these guys, they are frauds. Do not believe one word that they say.

If the 1000 wh/kg is for real then they should send a SAMPLE for testing by Tesla, the World's largest Car Battery Consumer/user without hesitation because the orders from Tesla could be huge if they can passed the testing on the Energy capacity that they claimed ok?
