Following last year’s successful pilot project in Delft, now five Automated External Defibrillator (AED) equipped stations have gone live in Rotterdam. The EVBox charging stations were unveiled by city officials yesterday.

The idea behind equipping public EV chargers with defibrillators is to ensure that access can be given to the potentially life-saving devices outside of office buildings and their opening hours, as most AEDs are located inside buildings such as offices and hospitals. According to the manufacturer, the positive results from the pilot have prompted other cities to place orders for the charging stations.

While the charging capacities were not mentioned in the release, the defibrillators could theoretically be attached to any kind of station, as they run independently on an internal battery and do not interact with the charging station systems.
