The Romanian Ministry of the Environment is doubling the budget for its Rabla Plus programme, which offers subsidies for the purchase of electric and hybrid cars. An additional 3.2 million euros are now available.

Pure electric cars are subsidised with 9,500 euros, plug-in hybrids with 4,200 euros. The original budget of the program was also 3.2 million euros, but was already fully exhausted three months after its launch, as the “Romania Insider” reports.

At 3.4 per cent, its share of the total car market in Romania is still low. However, according to the statistics of the Association of Automobile Manufacturers and Importers (APIA), electric and hybrid cars are on the rise: In the first five months of 2019, sales of BEV and PHEV increased by 70 per cent compared to the same period in 2018: By the end of May, 2,285 electric vehicles had been sold.
