Škoda has started series production of its first battery-electric model. The first Citigo e iV rolled off the assembly line on Wednesday at the Volkswagen plant in the Slovak capital Bratislava.

No wonder Michael Oeljeklaus, Board Member for Production, spoke of a milestone in view of the first Škoda electric car: “it is our brand’s first all-electric model with many practical advantages as well as high manufacturing quality.” Škoda is also on schedule: At the presentation in May, it was said that series production should start in the second half of the year and deliveries will begin at the beginning of 2020 – at least the first part has already been fulfilled by the Czech company.

Compared to the earlier Citigos with internal combustion engines, the most striking feature externally is the largely closed radiator grille painted in the same colour as the car. At the rear, the brand logo was replaced by a Škoda lettering, otherwise, the Citigo e iV can hardly be distinguished from the familiar versions.

The electric city car is powered by an electric motor with 61 kW with 210 Nm of torque. In 12.3 seconds, the small electric car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h up to a top speed of 130 km/h. The battery consists of 168 cells and has a capacity of 36.8 kWh (32.3 kWh net usable), with which a range of up to 260 km after WLTP should be possible. Škoda estimates consumption at 14.5 to 14.8 kWh per 100 kilometres. With the 7.2 kW onboard charger, the AC charging process up to 80 per cent takes a good 4:15 hours. A 40 kW DC charger with CCS is faster. In this case, the battery can be charged up to 80 per cent in around an hour. All the technical systems come from the VW modular system.

The basic list price in Germany is 20,950 euros, with the now increased environmental bonus for low-cost electric cars, the Citigo e iV is even cheaper than the 16,570 euros previously stated. In addition, there is a special leasing offer in Germany for the start of advance sales: Until 31 December 2019, the Citigo e iV can be leased for 145 euros per month (three-year term, 10,000 km/year). In the UK, the Citigo e iV will be starting at £20,455 before the government Plug-in Car Grant (PICG) discount of £3,500. The order books are set to open on the 10th of December 2019 with deliveries expected in early 2020.

400 pieces of Citigo e iV allocated for Slovakia for 2020 are already sold out, because of newly run subsidy for electric cars in Slovakia. :-(
