Nidec introduces two new electric axle drives

Nidec announced the expansion of its range of drive systems for electric vehicles by two new versions: The new versions are to be launched in the 50 kW and 200 kW power ratings. Series production is scheduled to begin in 2022 (50 kW) and 2023 (200 kW).

Like the 70 and 100 kW versions presented last spring, the two new versions are based on the company’s 150 kW e-axle, which comprises an electric motor, gearbox and inverter.

The new 200 kW e-axle is primarily designed for electric vehicles for the European and Chinese markets in the D and E segment. Compared to the 150 kW version, the weight increased from only 87 kg to 95 kg. The 50 kW model, on the other hand, is aimed at the kei-cars known in Japan. Thanks to a new design, this version of the E-axle is significantly smaller than the basic 150 kW version.

Recently it was announced that the Japanese electric motor manufacturer Nidec intends to invest around 1.7 billion euros in new plants in China, Poland and Mexico. In an interview, a high-ranking manager announced that the company intends to increase sales and production of the electric machines from 300,000 to twelve million units.
