Peugeot presents series electric van e-Boxer (gallery)
Peugeot presents its new electric van e-Boxer as PSA make good on their promise to electrify the entire commercial vehicle line. Peugeot’s large and now electric transporter offers the same cargo capabilities as the petrol-powered version.
The e-Boxer thus has an output of 90 kW and payload of up to 1,890 kg like the internal combustion engine vehicle. The same applies to the load volume with 8 to 17 cubic meters, depending on the version. Peugeot kept all available sizes also for the electric variant that the brand had first shown in Birmingham last year as reported.
Based on three wheelbases (3 m, 3.45 m and 4.04 m), the panel van is available in five versions, differing in length (L1 to L4) and height (H1 to H3). Besides, the e-Boxer is also available as chassis with a single cab in sizes L2, L3 and L4, chassis with the double cab in length L3 and platform chassis with single cab (L3 and L4).
The two lengths L1 and L2 are equipped with a 37 kWh battery, the lengths L3 and L4 have a 70 kWh battery. This results in a range of 200 kilometres for the smaller battery pack and 340 km when opting for 70 kWh – both claimed ranges are WLTP and still in testing.
To recharge, Peugeot offers AC charging that takes five hours (37 kWh) or nine hours (70 kWh) with up to 22 kW. The e-Boxer battery also takes faster charges with CCS so that both battery variants require one hour to 80 per cent at a 50 kW charging station.
Customers may make use of Peugeot’s ‘Easy-Charge’ service that includes accessories such as a reinforced socket, wall box, or smart wall box. Besides, the cooperation partner Inno2Grid is available to advise on the respective installation options.
When on a trip, there’s also the Free2Move service for clients to use a charge pass and trip planner (4.99 euro monthly) that includes access to a network of more than 130,000 charging stations in Europe. The Free2Move app also includes a trip planner that shows helps navigating and takes into account the remaining range and the charging stations on the route.
Peugeot will launch the e-Boxer on the European market in the fourth quarter of 2020. The model will be produced at the Italian plant in Cal di Sangro and electrified by the Bedeo cooperation company. The French brand has yet to specify prices.
PSA is working to electrify its entire commercial vehicle line-up and moved the target from 2025 to 2021. The Group has therefore launched various electric vans based on the same technology in quick succession recently. In the UK, these include the Citroën ë-Dispatch & Peugeot e-Expert as well as the Opel Vivaro-e and the Citroën ë-Jumpy (now called the ë-Dispatch). Peugeot also presented its version of a PSA battery-electric transporter, the e-Expert in May this year.
