Ford to introduce Mustang Mach-E GT in Europe

Ford has announced that the Mustang Mach-E GT will also be available in Europe from the end of 2021. Ford is not yet quoting prices for the top model of the electric SUV, but new performance data has been revealed. There will also be a special charging offer for customers in Europe.

Performance statistics such as power output of 342 kW and the system torque of 830 Nm have been known for some time, as Ford already announced the GT version of the Mustang Mach-E for the USA directly at its premiere in November 2019. For Europe, only the four other versions (each with small and large battery, four-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive) were initially planned.

During the ‘Go Electric’ roadshow, at which the Mustang Mach-E celebrated its official European premiere in London in February, Ford now also announced the European market launch of the Mustang Mach-E GT for the end of 2021 at the station in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

The high-performance version of the electric crossover will be able to accelerate from a standing start to 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds with its four-wheel drive. However, according to the Ford announcement, this is a calculated value based on test data, “based on a test methodology with a rolling start”. So what the Mustang Mach-E GT can really do from a standing start, other tests will have to show later. The statement in the headline of the press release “Nothing in its Class Accelerates Faster” may therefore be doubted.

In contrast to the other versions of the Mach-E, which are limited at 180 kph, the GT is allowed to go up to 200 kph. The GT uses the extended-range battery of the Mustang Mach-E, which comes to 98.8 kWh gross and 88 kWh net. The WLTP range should be up to 500 kilometers.

In addition to the modifications to the drive train, the GT version is to stand out from the other versions thanks to its adaptive MagneRide chassis, 20-inch light-alloy rims, red-painted brake calipers and two exclusive bodywork paints. The interior features sports seats and a steering wheel with suede inserts, available only in the GT.

Ford does not yet name prices for the Mustang Mach-E GT, but these are to be communicated in time for the market launch. In the USA the GT version is available from 60,500 dollars.

“The new Mustang Mach-E GT shows what all-electric performance really looks like,” emphasizes Stuart Rowley, President of Ford Europe. “but performance counts for nothing without the confidence to use it.”

Free charging for a year with Ionity

For this reason, Ford is putting together a special charging package for all European customers of the Mach-E (not just the GT version). As an additional service, customers will receive free access to the FordPass charging service for five years, meaning there is no basic fee. The charging network is based on the NewMotion offer. In addition, on year of free charging is allowed on Ionity’s HPCs, of which Ford is a partner.

The Mustang Mach-E can charge up to 150 kW at the HPC. In the version with the longest range (extended-range battery with rear-wheel drive), power for 119 kilometers is to be recharged in ten minutes. For this version, Ford now gives an “estimated” WLTP range of 610 kilometers.

“Our charging initiatives mean Mustang Mach-E customers can enjoy the electrified Mustang driving experience with the knowledge that they can recharge quickly and easily across Europe,” continued Rowley.
