Natural Yachts to electrify entire fleet

Dutch yacht dealer and rental company Natural Yachts wants to rent out only electric yachts. Seven new electric motor yachts are to be chartered for this purpose.

The decision was made after renting out several electric yachts last year, according to the family-owned company. In the statement, Natural Yachts argues that tourism is responsible for eight per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions. Boating holidays on electric boats, on the other hand, would enable emission-free boating.

Per charter season, the company’s seven e-yachts will save 86 tonnes of CO2 compared to a diesel-powered boat. Seven diesel boats would emit as much CO2 in the eight-month rental season as 18 Dutch households in an entire year.

The seven electric yachts are three Northman 1200 Electric (12 metres long), and four Northman Nexus Revo 870 Electric (9 metres long). Both boats have an LFP battery; Natural Yachts does not mention the range in the announcement – the “extra-long range” is supposed to be enough for six to ten hours of cruising or two days of holiday. Charging is done via shore power when the boat is moored at the jetty.

The nine-metre boat is designed for four people with two cabins and has one bathroom cabin. The larger Northman 1200 Electric has two bathrooms and three double cabins, thus featuring space for up to six people.

All yachts have a lounge on the sundeck, a bathing platform with a ladder, an outside shower, a bathroom cabin with an electric toilet, sink and shower, and a modern kitchen with an induction cooker. Solar panels are mounted on a hardtop to cover the electricity consumption in sunny weather.
