Xcharge presents Net Zero ‘smart’ fast charging

The Chinese charging infrastructure manufacturer Xcharge has presented its latest product line Net Zero, which is also to be launched in Europe. The fast charging solution offers up to 210 kW of power for parallel charging of up to two electric cars and is equipped with batteries from BYD as buffer storage.

The latter are available with two capacities: 233 kWh in the basic configuration and 466 kWh in the Plus model. In addition, the Net Zero series is equipped with a Battery2Grid function, so that energy can be sold back to the grid at peak times when the battery is relatively full. Apart from the size, there are no further details about the battery but since the batteries are from the manufacturer BYD, it is clear that the batteries will use LFP cells.

For easy installation, the Net Zero is equipped with an unspecified “industrial socket”. This is used to connect the charging station to the grid and slowly recharge the built-in battery storage. According to XCharge, operators only need to prepare a “30/60 kW mains plug” on site and can connect the charging pole without any further electrical work. All important components are built into the charging column itself.

The manfacturer says that installation is to be further simplified, as no foundation has to be built under the device. By the end of this year, XCharge wants to set up the first units in Europe. In the USA, the Net Zero is to be offered from next year with CCS1 connection. The Net Zero would be XCharge’s first product on the US market.

XCharge CEO Simon Hou also sees the battery-powered fast charging station as evidence of his company’s shift in strategy away from just offering charging and towards “strengthening a digital energy network”. “The Net Zero series is an important demonstration that we are aligning technology across our product portfolio with environmental goals,” says Hou.
