Volvo issues recall for the XC40 Recharge in the USA

More than 5,300 units of the all-electric Volvo XC40 Recharge produced between 8 September 2020 and 13 August 2021 are being recalled in the US.

Water could enter a wiring harness, cause corrosion in the accelerator pedal’s internal circuitry and distort signals from the pedal. Possible consequences include unintended acceleration or loss of drive.

Volvo first found out about the issue in the first quarter of 2022 when it started to receive reports of different issues with accelerator pedal behaviour. The fix for the problem has also been found: Owners of impacted XC40 Recharge models are being encouraged to take their vehicle to a local dealership where it will be inspected for corrosion and the harness will be replaced. A ‘capillary breaking splice’ will also be installed to stop any risk of water intrusion.
