Go Ahead electrifies the fleet in North East England

Go-Ahead has announced the addition of nine electric buses to expand its fully electric bus fleet in the northeast of England. The buses result from a £2 million investment with top-up funding from the UK government’s Ultra-Low Emission Bus Fund.

The new e-buses will serve the Q3 route, which runs from Great Park to Wallsend via Newcastle City for Go North East, the regional Go Ahead service. The company said the investment reflected the company’s commitment to a net zero bus fleet by 2035.

Go North East aims to become the first fully electric bus fleet in the northeast of England but got delayed by the pandemic. The new deliveries take the electric fleet to 18 buses.

Go Ahead did not disclose the make of the buses – they are branded Voltra – but GoAhead has worked with BYD-ADL previously.

The buses will be charged overnight at the state-of-the-art Riverside depot in Gateshead.
