ADS-TEC to build plant in Alabama

In the USA, the German energy and technology company ADS-TEC Energy will soon also produce its battery-buffered ultra-fast charging solutions for electric vehicles in Alabama.

The company is investing around eight million US dollars in its first US plant in Auburn in Alabama and plans to create around 180 jobs there. The build-up of sales, warehousing, service and assembly in Auburn has begun, and management expects full capacity to be reached in 2024.

ADS-TEC Energy first announced plans for its own US plant in February 2022. At the time, the company had not yet narrowed down to specific regions or states. Now the company has found a home in Auburn, located in eastern Alabama, which is connected to both Atlanta (Georgia) and Montgomery in Alabama via Interstate 85. The project is funded by the Alabama government.

“We’re excited to welcome yet another high-tech German company to Alabama,” Governor Kay Ivey said. “The partnership between German engineering and Alabama manufacturing has brought many innovative products to the North American market. We’re excited to add ADS-TEC Energy’s battery-buffered fast charging stations to that list, serving the quickly growing electric vehicle market.”

Alabama is also home to a Mercedes-Benz plant, which has had a plant in the state since 1993. Among others, companies from the aerospace sector in Alabama, including Airbus and NASA. ADS-TEC says it intends to develop a cooperative program with Auburn University, which should provide students and new graduates with positions in production and management. The German company also says it will cooperate with Alabama-based companies wherever possible.

ADS-TEC Energy founder and CEO Thomas Speidel said: “We already have a successful market presence in the Americas, and now are establishing a new location for sales, warehousing, service and assembly of our fast-charging systems in Auburn, supported by a strong economic environment driven by innovation and growth.”
