Renault introduces new Megane E-Tech trim in the UK
Renault UK has announced an update for the all-electric Megane E-Tech with the introduction of the new top-of-the-range ‘Iconic’ trim. It features a new heat pump, among other upgrades, and prices start at £41,995.
The new Iconic trim features the extensive specification of the limited version Launch Edition, but included a new heat pump and an extended choice of colour palette. According to Renault, the heat pump can maximize driving range in cold weather by up to 9 per cent. Furthermore, the company writes that the pump is a response to customer demand, heightening both residual value and usability.
In terms of cosmetic improvements, Renault UK now offers two-tone paint options, allowing customers to pick “their favourite paint colour on the body and choosing between diamond black or shadow grey on the roof”. Body colour options range from solid, metallic to special metallic paints, and include glacier white, diamond black, shadow grey, ceramic grey and midnight blue.
Prices for the Megane E-Tech with the new Iconic trim start from £41,995. Next the new Iconic trim, customers can choose from Equilibre and Techno versions, with the basic ‘Equilibre’ battery-electric Megane E-Tech priced from £36,995. The ‘Techno’ variant starts from £39,495, while the launch edition currently costs £40,995.
The Megane is also being updated internally, as Renault outlined in their restructuring plan last November. The electric models Renault 5 Electric and Renault 4 Electric, the Megane E-Tech Electric, the Scénic Electric and two yet-unnamed others will be produced under the Ampere offshoot, which will focus exclusively on electric passenger vehicles.
Production for the electric Megane started in France in 2021, with a short interruption in April 2022, due to the semiconductor shortage and a lack of components that used to be produced in Ukraine. It is currently unclear whether the ‘Iconic’ trim will be available in other European, or global nations, or whether Renault plans to keep the variant on the British Isles.
