Mack Trucks partners with Heliox and Gilbarco

In the USA,  Mack Trucks has entered charging infrastructure partnerships with Heliox and Gilbarco Veeder-Root. The agreements should enable customer adoption of battery-electric vehicles such as the Mack LR Electric, Mack’s first fully electric Class 8 refuse truck.

Mac customers will now recieve end-to-end support with electric trucks, including on-hand inventory, hardware installations services and support resources focused on charger uptime. Mack says that these agreements represent a key differentiator since charging infrastructure components are difficult to secure, and installation and support services can vary.

“At Heliox, we know full well the hurdles that fleets face when embarking on a transition to electric vehicles,” said David Aspinwall, Heliox Group Chief Commercial Officer and president of Heliox North America. “By combining our robust portfolio of EV charging solutions and support with Mack’s world class electric truck, customers can lean on our combined industry experience to ensure they’re getting started with a straightforward, reliable EV solution with right-sized chargers for their needs today while also planning for their long-term objectives.”

Mack Trucks started the production of heavy electric trucks towards the end of 2021 and launched a VaaS scheme for electric trucks soon after.  The Mack LR Electric, with a gross vehicle weight of 66,000 pounds (30 tonnes) and a payload of 11.5 tonnes, is powered by two electric motors that together deliver 334 kW of continuous and 400 kW of peak power and has four battery packs with NMC cells that can be charged at up to 150 kW.
