Tata Motors secures another major Xpres order

The Indian manufacturer Tata Motors has announced another major fleet order for its electric cars. The taxi company OHM E Logistics in Hyderabad has ordered 1,000 units of the compact electric car XPRES T EV, which will be delivered in stages.

According to Tata Motors’ own numbers, it has so far handed over more than 50,000 electric cars to private and fleet customers. The ‘XPRES’ was launched as a subsidiary to cater to fleet customers in July 2021, which then launched the XPRES T EV as its first vehicle model.

The electric sedan is available in two different battery options, allowing for a range of 315 km and 277 km (ARAI-certified range). The BEV  options each feature a high energy density battery of 26 kWh and 25.5 kWh, which can be charged from 0- 80% in 59 mins and 110 mins respectively, using fast charging. Charging via a 15 Ampere plug point is also an option.

“This order of 1000 XPRES T EVs will help them enrich their electric cab services in Hyderabad. Through our XPRES-T EV sedans, we have created a new benchmark in the sustainable fleet market segment, currently commanding a market share of over 90%,” said Ramesh Dorairajan, Senior General Manager – Network Management & EV Sales, Tata Motors, adding: “The XPRES-T EVs offer an optimal battery size, captive fast charging solution, which ensures outstandingly low cost of ownership in addition to safety and passenger comfort, making it a comprehensive and attractive proposition for fleet owners and operators.”

This is not the only major fleet order Tata has received lately, as another was announced for 25,000 BEVs in India for the ride-hailing company Uber. The local electric-only ride-hailing service Expres also ordered a fleet of 2,000 electric vehicles toward the end of last year. In terms of utility vehicles, Tata is also catering to major orders with 1,500 electric buses headed to Delhi over the next twelve years. In order to help facilitate the necessary charging infrastructure, Tata is also building a 25,000-strong charger network in India.
