Nissan launches two new Ariya variants

Nissan is launching two new variants of its Ariya electric model in Europe. While there are no changes to the body, one is a new top-of-the-line model, while the other is a more affordable trim to make the Ariya eligible for subsidies in some countries.

The latter is the front-wheel drive Ariya Engage, available with both battery sizes (63 and 87 kWh). The smaller battery version has a WTLP range of 404 kilometres, while the model with an 87 kWh battery and 178 kW front-wheel drive can get as far as 536 kilometres on one charge. More realistic range figures for this drive combination can be found in our drive report on the Nissan Ariya.

According to the carmaker, this new variant would “ensure [that] customers have the ability to access EV grants and subsidies across some European markets.” However, Nissan does not say in which countries exactly.

Specific pricing should follow from 3 April, when the two new variants of the Nissan Ariya can be ordered in most European markets. In Germany, the Nissan Ariya already qualifies for the environmental bonus with a net list price starting at €39,907.

The second new variant is called the Ariya Evolve+ and is a new top-of-the-line all-wheel drive model with more power (290 kW) and faster acceleration (0 to 100 kph in 5.1 seconds). Previously, the maximum power for the all-wheel drive model with the 87 kWh battery was 225 kW. In addition to the familiar Evolve trim, the new Evolve+ features 20-inch alloy wheels with aero covers and a rich Nappa Blue leather seat trim.

“The Ariya was created for customers who wanted an electric vehicle that fits seamlessly into their lifestyle,” says Leon Dorssers, Senior Vice Present, Region Marketing & Sales, Nissan AMIEO (Africa, Middle East, India, Europe, and Oceania). “Following the interest of our customers, we realised there was room to expand the Ariya line-up on both ends of the spectrum. The Ariya’s new entry price and top-range variants are well-equipped to meet a variety of needs, providing greater access to the EV and a more exciting driving experience for our customers.”
