Tritium launches new charging station in the USA

Tritium has started accepting orders for its first product for the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) Formula Program in the USA. The charging system will include four of Tritium’s 150kW PKM150 charging stations, along with two power rectifiers.

In terms of technical specifications, the new chargers are capable of delivering up to 150kW of power to four EVs simultaneously, according to the manufacturer. These are manufactured at the Australian company’s factory in Tennessee, which was only opened last August. Since then, the workforce had been expanded in February by another 250 jobs.

The NEVI Formula Program was introduced in February, with the objective to grow the US American EV charging market with a 7.5 billion dollar subsidy programme. Several requirements will have to be fulfilled for companies to qualify for the subsidy pot, such as using a CCS charger, but also locally manufacturing the majority of components, at a minimum of 55 per cent.

“The NEVI program has opened up an unprecedented opportunity to advance the e-mobility transition in the United States, leading to a manufacturing boom in the country,” said Tritium CEO Jane Hunter. “As we continue to scale production at our Tennessee facility, Tritium is proud to deliver a product that allows states to put these funds to use and provide U.S. drivers with the EV infrastructure they need. As the demand for reliable and accessible fast charging continues to grow across the country, Tritium will remain an industry leader, providing innovative and effective product solutions.”
