Monte orders 30 all-electric passenger planes

Manufacturer Eviation will deliver 30 of its all-electric planes Alice to UK-based regional aircraft lessor Monte. The two companies have signed a letter of intent, putting total orders for the Alice plane at more than $4 billion.

The Alice completed its maiden flight in September of last year. It has room for nine passengers and two crew members and is powered by two magni650 electric propulsion units, each rated at 640 kW, from magniX. Manufacturer Eviation promises that the operating costs per flight hour will be a “fraction” compared to light jets or high-end turboprop aircraft.

Since first unveiling its prototype in 2017, Eviation has received orders worth more than $4 billion from companies such as DHL, Evia Aero and NTAS.

“Passing the US$ 4 billion threshold is a significant marketplace endorsement for the Alice. We are thrilled to welcome Monte as our latest customer, as they share our vision for a new era of sustainable, responsible aviation,” says Gregory Davis, President and CEO of Eviation. “The leasing community has an important role to play in reducing the aviation industry’s carbon emissions. With a network spreading from the Americas to Asia-Pacific and throughout Europe, I am excited for how Monte can utilize the Alice to bring sustainable aviation to the world.”

However, Eviation does not specify in the announcement under which conditions the now-signed letter of intent can become a binding order.
