Hyundai and Kia are recalling more than 91,000 newer vehicles in the USA due to fire hazards and are asking their owners to park the cars outside.

One might assume that this refers to electric cars, however, one would be mistaken: this recall only affects internal combustion engines. Specifically, about 52,000 units of the Hyundai models Palisade, Tucson, Sonata, Elantra and Kona, as well as almost 40,000 Kias of the Seltos, Soul and Sportage series, in which the oil pumps can overheat.

According to Reuters, Kia revealed six reports of potentially related thermal events but no accidents or injuries while Hyundai has had four similar reports. The automobile manufacturers told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) a suspect part was eliminated from production in March.
