Mer has won a tender in Norway from airport operator Avinor to build charging infrastructure at 42 airports. The contract runs for twelve years and provides for the construction of numerous new AC and DC charging points for the electric cars of travellers, employees and other visitors to the airports (the number is not specified) as well as the takeover of existing AC chargers at the various airports. The takeover of the existing charging facilities began in September.

However, both the takeover and the new installation do not mention the number of charging points. The takeover of the existing charging points began in September. There are no further details on the hardware used, but a press photo accompanying the announcement shows HPC columns from Kempower.

Norway wants its aviation system to be fossil-free by 2050, but Avinor’s own operations is planned  to be fossil-free from 2030. There is also an intermediate step for short-haul flights to be electrified in Norway from 2040, The collaboration with Avinor puts More in a unique position

“Expanding and improving the charging offer at a total of 42 airports is an important milestone for Avinor. We have both travelers and partners who have been in demand this, and now we, together with our new charging partner More, can finally offer it,” said Amy Løken-Erichsen, commercial manager country side, Avinor.

Mer is also starting to introduce the Autocharge function in Norway. Customers who have activated the service in the app can now charge via Autocharge at many of Mer’s charging stations. This is a simple version of an automatic authentication of the charging process, where only the charging cable has to be plugged into the vehicle – the start and billing run automatically.
