The charging infrastructure expansion initiative is funded by President Biden’s Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the state is expected to receive more than $380 million to create 6,600 miles of EV corridors, with plans to install at least four fast charging stations every 50 miles.

The new funding pot will join over $10 billion already invested in state funding for electric cars, trucks, buses, and infrastructure through California’s Climate Commitment. In addition, California recently announced that it was planning to move the ban on combustion vehicle sales goals two years ahead of schedule. School buses are also planned to be electric from 2035.

“This is a direct result of President Biden’s infrastructure law. We’re using this money to deliver for Californians, building EV chargers throughout the state as we continue getting more clean cars onto our roads,” said California’s Governor Gavin Newsom.

Only “at least 4” fast charging units at each station? This is a 10 year old out-of-date and lack of reality plan. Many more units shoukd be installed at each station to avoid lines of BEVs waiting to charge. There is also no mention of which companies are receiving funding. We in CA know that several companies, which have qualified to install previous CCS DC fast chargers, have done poor jobs and failed to maintain their installations. Will there be heavy fines for these installers if their poor quality work continues? Will they be SUBSTANTIAL fines?
