In China, Tesla has now made it possible for people driving electric cars from other manufacturers to use more than 350 Superchargers and over 260 destination chargers from Tesla. This covers 38 models from 30 brands, according to the Chinese electric vehicle news website, CN EV Post, referring to information provided directly by Tesla. This is an extension of the pilot project Tesla announced in April 2023 with an initial ten Superchargers and 120 destination chargers.

Tesla operates more than 11,000 Superchargers at over 1,800 locations and over 2,000 Destination Chargers at more than 700 locations in China. SAIC-GM and Polestar recently entered into charging infrastructure partnerships with Tesla in China, enabling owners of electric cars from both manufacturers to access the Superchargers enabled for third-party brands.

As for the charging tariffs, CN EV Post mentions that drivers of electric cars from other brands “have to pay a higher price when they use Tesla charging stations.” The news site writes that Tesla charges a portion of this additional fee to finance the cost of opening its chargers to third parties and adapting the charging stations to fit the vehicles. Knowing the exact charging costs is impossible, as the tariff varies depending on the charging station.
