Plug&Charge: Hubject cooperates with EV Connect

Hubject announces a strategic cooperation with the California-based charging platform EV Connect. The core objective of the partners is to automate the start of the charging process through vehicle-based authentication.

With their authentication approach, Hubject and EV Connect want to make trading with apps or credit cards superfluous. They are relying on a Plug&Charge solution, where plugging an EV in automatically initialises the charging process. Authentication is carried out in accordance with ISO 15118-2, a standard for communication between electric vehicles and charging stations. To start the charging process, the vehicle and charging station ‘talk’ to each other.

By activating the ISO 15118-2 standard and integrating the Hubject Public KeyInfrastructure, EV Connect wants to “empower” charge point operators (CPOs) and eMobility service providers (EMSPs) to simplify the charging process. That applies to the US, the European and Australia markets. In addition, vehicle-based authentication “will be available for select roaming partners for global network coverage and seamless, secure charging via Hubject interchange, the world’s largest roaming ecosystem.”

Trishan Peruma, CEO of Hubject North America, commented on the new partnership as follows: “We are excited to partner with EV Connect to bring their drivers the best possible charging experience leveraging Hubject’s intercharge roaming platform and Plug&Charge ecosystem.” The partnership is an important step towards creating consistency across all EV markets, regardless of their level of maturity.

“At EV Connect, we firmly believe in the importance of open standards and collaboration as the core enablers to ubiquitous EV charging, and our collaboration with Hubject is directly aligned with both of these key components,” said Dylan Armstrong, Director of Product Management at EV Connect. “By enabling the Hubject PKI, we are adding yet another key enhancement to the EV Connect charging infrastructure, providing invaluable business services while ensuring a seamless, hassle-free, and reliable charging experience for EV drivers.”
