USA: VTRL commissions 47 fast-chargers for electric trucks

Velocity Truck Rental & Leasing (VTRL) has installed 47 fast charging stations for electric trucks at four dealer locations in Southern California. The company offers two charging models: opportunity charging and 'charging as a service.'

Specifically, VTLR installed seventeen stations in Rancho Dominguez, 14 in each Fontana and Industry, and two in San Diego. All Detroit e-Fill supplied 45 fast chargers, each with a capacity of 120 kW. ChargePoint supplied the remaining two stations.

During the charging break, “drivers can relax in comfortable break rooms equipped with WIFI, television, snacks, water, and restrooms, ensuring a pleasant and convenient wait,” VTLR states. For those who do not want to wait, the company offers a ‘charging as a service’ model. In that case, customers can leave the truck at a VTLR location and it will be charged ahead of the next shift. VTLR offers this service as a monthly subscription and pay-per-use application.

“At Velocity, we are not just reacting to the shift towards electric mobility; we are at the forefront with our customers and actively shaping it. By integrating high-powered, commercial-grade charging solutions along key transit corridors, we are ensuring that our customers have the support they need today,” noted David Deon, president of VTRL. “This charging infrastructure investment is a testament to our commitment to helping our customers transition smoothly to electromobility solutions and to prepare for compliance with the Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) regulations.”

VTRL says that it wants “to lead the transition to sustainable freight solutions by providing efficient and reliable charging options for commercial medium- and heavy-duty electric trucks.” Just last year, the company ordered 200 battery-electric trucks from Daimler Truck North America. Specifically, the order was for 125 eCascadia and 75 eM2 from Freightliner. All trucks should be on the road by next year.
