BTR kicks off anode material production in Indonesia
The first phase of the project, which involves an investment of 478 million dollars, will enable an annual production capacity of 80,000 tonnes of anode material. In the second phase, which begins at the end of 2024, and costs an additional investment of 299 million dollars, the facility will be expanded to a total capacity of 160,000 tonnes.
For the construction of the first phase, BTR employed 4,000 local workers and the project, which was completed in 10 months, will create 1,200 jobs once production begins. With the new plant, BTR aims to fill gaps in the supply of lithium-ion battery anode materials in Indonesia and the ASEAN region. Customers include major manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries such as Panasonic, Samsung SDI, LGES, SK On, CATL and BYD. The Indonesian plant will supply various anode materials for electric vehicles, consumer batteries and energy storage systems.
BTR’s factory in Indonesia represents the first step in the international expansion of the Chinese anode materials industry and is an important part of BTR’s global growth strategy. For the next step in its globalisation initiative, BTR is also currently building a factory in Morocco.
