GS Yuasa to expands hybrid battery production capacities

The Japanese battery specialist GS Yuasa has decided to at least double its production capacities for lithium-ion batteries for use in hybrid vehicles. To this end, the company’s subsidiary Blue Energy is strengthening its production lines in Kyoto and building a second plant at the same location.

Saueressig plans US facility for dry electrodes near Tesla

Saueressig Engineering appears to be setting up shop in the US. The new reports also suggest Saueressig has designated a new site for its American HQ in very close proximity to Tesla. This points to the German company being indeed involved in building machines for battery cell production on behalf of the EV maker.

SK Innovation to build two new battery plants

SK IE Technology has decided to build two new Polish plants for separators used in electric car batteries. The subsidiary of South Korean battery cell manufacturer SK Innovation is already building two plants in Poland, with construction of plants 3 and 4 scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2021.

LG aims for 110 GWh cell production in the USA by 2025

The South Korean battery cell manufacturer LG Energy Solution has announced that it will invest more than 4.5 billion US dollars (just under 3.8 billion euros) by 2025 to expand its production capacities in the USA by 70 GWh to 110 GWh. At least two new factories are planned.

SK Innovation notes record sales growth over 2020

SK Innovation turned over 1.61 trillion won, the equivalent of around 1.2 billion euros, with its battery business in 2020. Compared to 2019, sales more than doubled, but the battery business still left a bottom-line loss of 426.5 billion won (318 million euros) in 2020 – due to investments.
