First customers receive eActros 600 electric truck

Following the start of series production of the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 at the end of November, the manufacturer is now reporting the first customer deliveries. By the end of the year, Mercedes-Benz Trucks will have handed over around 50 units of the electrically powered long-distance lorry to companies in Germany.

At the start of series production in Wörth, Daimler Truck boss Karin Rådström announced that the first customers would receive the eActros 600 this year. The company has now announced that the first customers to take delivery of an eActros 600 include August Gschwander Transport, Blue Känguru, Brummer Logistik, Contargo, Contrail-Transport, Denkinger Internationale Spedition, Ralf Reyser Transporte & Logistik, Schade Logistic and Wessels Holding.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has around 2,000 firm orders in its order books to date and a four-digit number of declarations of intent to take delivery. The Stuttgart-based company plans to hand over 50 units this month. “Decisive for the delivery of the vehicles this year is the funding from the German Federal Ministry for Digital Affairs and Transport for customers within Germany,” the company writes. In other words, some customers ordered early enough to benefit from the federal government’s KsNI subsidy, which has long since expired. Other series-produced eActros vehicles manufactured in the first few months will primarily be sent to branches and dealerships as demonstration vehicles.

Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services at Mercedes-Benz Trucks, comments: “With its 500 km range as a 40-ton truck without intermediate charging, the eActros 600 is a real Gamechanger for the electrification of long-distance transport. With its very high energy efficiency, the eActros 600 will also be profitable for fleet operators. The fact that we are now handing over the first series production vehicles to our customers is a very special milestone for us and our customers in the transformation towards sustainable freight transport.”

As is known, the eActros 600 is the third battery-electric truck series to be produced in series at Daimler Truck in Wörth. Series production of the eActros 300/400 for distribution transport started there in 2021, followed by the eEconic for municipal use in 2022. But it was only for the production of the new electric-powered long-distance lorry that the manufacturer intervened in its line production on a larger scale, as electrive was able to see during a factory tour. This is because the eActros 600 is built flexibly on an assembly line with combustion engines, making it the first electric truck from Wörth to be completely assembled in a production hall. The two smaller electric series weighing up to 27 tonnes will continue to be moved to another hall for the installation of the electric components.

The eActros 600 celebrated its world premiere in October 2023 and owes its name to its battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt-hours. The XXL BEV also houses a new electric drive axle developed in-house with 400 kW continuous and up to 600 kW peak power and a front box, which bundles control units, high-voltage components and the electric air compressor in the former engine compartment. The range of the electric truck stands at 500 kilometres. The eActros 600 can be charged via CCS with up to 400 kW, and the electric truck will also be capable of megawatt charging as soon as the MCS standard has been finalised.

Karin Rådström describes the eActros 600 as a benchmark for the industry. The competition is indeed still lagging a little behind, whether in the form of models that already exist but are still between distribution and long-distance transport in terms of range. Or in the form of electric trucks for long-distance transport that have been announced but are not yet ready for series production, as is the case with Volvo Trucks. “The start of series production of our eActros 600 is further proof of our ambition to change the industry,” Rådström stated at the end of November. The eActros 600 is aimed at the long-haul segment in Europe, which is responsible for two-thirds of CO2 emissions in heavy road haulage. “Our battery-electric long-haul truck will therefore make a real difference.”
