ChargePoint & GM to cooperate on charging infrastructure
The charging stations built under the new initiative will be branded ‘GM Energy’, and are planned to be open to the public before the end of 2025. Additionally, “many of the new locations” will be fitted with ChargePoint’s Omni Port system which allows vehicles with either CCS or NACS charging ports to use the charging stations without an adapter. Furthermore, “many” of the locations will feature ultra-fast charging capacities of up to 500 kW, however, the initiators do not specify how many locations or stations will be involved.
“The transition to electric mobility continues to be driven by leaders such as General Motors offering innovative EVs and committing to make chargers as ubiquitous as possible,” said Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint. “Our collaboration with GM represents a significant investment in the infrastructure to enable fast and easy charging for all. Together, ChargePoint and GM will deliver a seamless fast charging experience via reliable charging hardware managed by our industry leading software platform.”
ChargePoint has been heavily involved in the construction of DC fast-charging infrastructure in the USA lately, having completed six fast-charging corridors in Colorado just a few days ago, and announcing a charging cooperation with Nissan in October. A deal to install more charging stations along California highways was signed in September.
