Alexander Reinhardt named new CEO of Ubitricity
Ubitricity became known as a specialist for charging at streetlights. Since 2021, the Berlin-based company has been part of Shell, where it is responsible for the expansion of charging solutions in public spaces within the Mobility division – meaning that Ubitricity’s activities now extend far beyond streetlamp charging.
The new CEO Alexander Reinhardt has helped shape the development from the startup to the Shell takeover. He has been with Ubitricity since 2014, where he was initially a project manager and was promoted to Chief Operating Officer around three years ago. His employer recognises Reinhardt’s “crucial role in building the company’s operations and driving its expansion into four markets: the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and France.” As the new CEO of Ubitricity, he succeeds Daniel Kunkel.
With its charging infrastructure (“from lamppost to fast and rapid charge points”), Ubitricity has a strong presence in the UK in particular. With more than 9,000 public charging points in over 30 municipalities, the Shell subsidiary has what it claims is the largest public charging network in the UK. Ubitricity operates a further 4,000 charging points in the Netherlands, Germany and France.
“Improving access to public charging is crucial for the continued adoption of electric vehicles, and I believe ubitricity can play a significant role in this transition,” says Alexander Reinhardt. “Having dedicated over a decade to ubitricity, I am excited to lead this company into its next chapter with Shell group as we continue to innovate and expand our EV charging network even further across Europe.”
Outgoing CEO Daniel Kunkel also has his say. He joined the company in 2022, shortly after the acquisition of ubitricity by Shell. “Having worked closely with Alexander for several years, I’m confident that his deep understanding of ubitricity’s operations and his vision for the future make him an exceptional choice for CEO.” He continues: “Over the past few years, as part of Shell group we have transformed ubitricity from a product-focused business to a leader in the European charge point industry. We’ve put the customer at the core of our strategy and grown the business to nearly 14,000 charge points. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our incredible team, and I look forward to seeing what they accomplish next.” It is not known what position Kunkel is moving to.
