Ledermair opens Tyrol’s largest e-bus depot

The Austrian bus company Ledermair has reportedly opened the largest e-bus depot in Tyrol. Charging infrastructure at the site was implemented in partnership with Kempower and vlotte vkw, and is designed to support the operation of a growing electric bus fleet.

At its site in Thaur near Innsbruck, the depot now features 28 charging points with a total capacity of 2.4MW. The charging infrastructure is powered by four Kempower Power Units, while charging is reportedly schedule-based and managed using the Kempower ChargEye software. The buses can also be preconditioned before deployment to reduce operating costs and ensure grid-friendly charging processes.

Furthermore, the onsite charging infrastructure is designed for future expansion. The capacity of the Power Units can be increased to up to 600kW, and the system can be expanded from the current 28 to up to 32 charging points. The project partners noted that the installation presented unique technical challenges due to complex wiring requirements and limited space.

The new depot is part of Ledermair’s electrification strategy. Last year, the company announced the procurement of 27 battery-electric buses of the type MAN Lion’s City E, which are to be used in regular service in the Innsbruck region. With the new charging infrastructure, Ledermair is now creating the conditions to both operate and expand its electric bus fleet. “The technology has proven itself in the market and provides us with precisely the adaptability we need here on site,” said Alexander Ledermair.
