Mer to install charging infrastructure for Norwegian retail chain
In addition to installing the new charging stations, Mer has been tasked with upgrading several of the existing locations with faster chargers. In total, Mer plans to build over 6,000 new charging points over the next four years, of which 1,800 are planned for 2025. The new development will boost Coop’s available chargers by over 50 per cent.
Mer currently operates a network of over 10,000 publicly available charging points in Europe, which will be expanded by another 6,000 charging stations over the next four years. For the upcoming year, the company states that nearly 50 per cent of its planned development is secured through partner agreements, for which the company lists 10 companies, including IKEA, Dennree and MPREIS.
Mer is also active in more commercial charging spaces, such as a planned truck charging hub with Enova in Norway. In 2023, Mer also saw Nio install 15 battery swapping stations at its charging parks.
“We know that EV drivers appreciate being able to run errands while charging. Our partnership strategy ensures that we increase the charging network in our prioritised markets in Europe in attractive places where people travel and need to charge. Together, these agreements provide a solid foundation for scaling our European business,” says Mer CCO Vidar Eide.
“We are proud to extend our partnership with Mer. Access to electric car charging is an important factor for many when choosing where to shop. Coop is owned by its customers, and we want to meet their needs while strengthening Coop’s commitment to sustainable solutions. With more charging points available where people shop, we make everyday life easier for our members and support the transition to greener transport,” said Thomas Stemland, Head of value-added services and business in Coop Norway.
